About us
Although Simpson basses are relatively new to the world market their history goes back to the beginning of the 1980s. Clive built the first SBI in 1981, it was fairly forward looking, headless and fretless with standard mini tuners mounted in a fan shape behind the bridge.
Fast forward to 1995 the SBII model was born still headless and fretless but this time sported a larger Poplar body, through neck and a Steinberger licensed tuner bridge.
In 1998 the initial plans for the SBIII semi-electric were drawn up and put on a shelf...
A young family and a flourishing career in sound engineering put the project on hold until 2020 and the world stopping with COVID. "Ah, what shall I do now?" asked Clive, "time to build that bass" so the plans were updated and development began.
The first prototype was a resounding success, generating much interest amongst bassist clients and friends, to the point of continuing production with 4 different variations, 4 and 5 string, fretted and fretless. In early 2024 coloured (sunburst) versions were added to the catalog.
The SBIV Funkmaster came to life in 2022 in response to demand from exacting bass players looking for an ergonomic versatile 24 fret model.
Then in early 2023 the SBV Groovemaster was developed as a more "laid-back" passive bass with an old-school vibe.
Since 2022 Simpson basses have been present in a number of the most important guitar events both in Italy and Europe and will continue to be so in the future.
